The D.O. Ribera del Duero is situated on Spain’s northern plateau. It is one of the quality wine regions in the autonomous community of Castile and León that is found along the course of the Duero river. The region is characterized by a largely flat, rough landscape and is centered by the town Aranda de Duero. Ribera del Duero was named Wine Region of the Year 2012 by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
Scorchingly hot summers with moderate to low rainfall alternate with unforgiving, icy winters. These climate extremes, combined with exceptional soil conditions and higher elevation, create the perfect growing conditions for the Tempranillo grape, which is also known as the Tinto Fino or the Tinta del País. Altogether, these aspects create the ideal circumstances to produce delicious red wines if the winery is willing to put considerable energy and passion in its work. At Bodegas Hercal, we put all the love for our country and work in our products, which results in some exquisite wines.
